Q: Are there any naming considerations for network users attached to the AS/400 FSIOP?

A: The user profiles on the AS/400 system are coordinated with the user IDs for the network servers and OS/2 LAN Servers in the domain (provided a network server on the AS/400 is the domain controller).

The user profiles specified in the network server description of the domain controller (this can be a group name or *ALL) are the ones that are authorized to the network servers in the domain. These users have access to the resources managed by the domain through the client interface (from LAN-attached workstations) and through the AS/400 interface.

While AS/400 user profile names can be up to 10 characters long, the LAN Requester code does not support user IDs of more than eight characters. User profile names from the AS/400 are downloaded to the network servers. Therefore, users who access the network servers from LAN-attached client workstations should have user profile names of eight characters of fewer.
