Moving a Disk Unit Between Storage Pools
If you are considering moving a disk unit from one storage pool to another, you will find the procedure much easier on OS/400 V2R2M0.
We recently shifted a disk unit from auxiliary storage pool (ASP) 2 where we keep our journal receivers to the system pool. After first verifying that there would be enough unused storage in ASP 2 on the remaining disk units, we ended all subsystems, turned the keylock switch on the control panel to the MANUAL position and entered the following command:
PWRDWNSYS OPTION(*IMMED) + RESTART(*YES)
When the IPL or Install the System display appeared, we selected option 3 to Use Dedicated Service Tools (DST) and entered the DST password.
Starting on the Use DST display, we selected the following options:
4: Work with Disk Units 1: Work with Disk Configuration 3: Work with ASP Configuration 7: Move Units From One ASP to Another
On the Specify ASP to Move Disk Units display, we selected the disk unit from ASP 2 that we wanted to move and entered a 1 in the New ASP column. We then pressed Enter on the Confirm Move of Units display.
The system went to sleep while it moved the data off the disk unit. The processor light did not even blink. After about 15 minutes, we received a completion message.
We then completed the manual IPL in the normal way. All told, it took less than an hour and there was no need to save and restore the objects in the ASP. - Christopher Andrle
