Q: I'm trying to attach to the AS/400 using Windows NT Workstation. I've tried getting Client Access for Windows to work; after a great deal of wrestling, it was very limited. Do I have any other options?
A: Because of the release of Windows 95, there is going to be quite a growth in the connectivity options for Windows NT. If you're wondering what one thing has to do with the other, read on. There is a small yet important inclusion in the agreement that allows a vendor to display the official Windows 95 logo on software. That inclusion asks that software that displays the Windows 95 logo also work under Windows NT.
Microsoft has softened that requirement a bit since they originally came up with it, but many vendors are still going to comply with the request. For example, NetSoft is releasing its midrange connectivity software for Windows 95 concurrently with the release of Windows 95. Wall Data is following up the release with a Windows 95 version of RUMBA. Each of these products should also work under Windows NT.
You may also want to investigate Microsoft's SNA Server. That product has a client for Windows NT as well. The availability of Windows 95 is a boon to those of us who are fans of Windows NT.
