Q. I have been unable to find a TN5250 emulator that I can download from the Internet. Would you be able to give me some specific information (freeware or shareware and companies or products) to investigate?
I would appreciate any help you can provide.

A. I haven't found any TN5250 emulators on the Internet either. I have found some reasonably good VTxxx Telnet emulators, though. The only problem with these is that you'll probably have to manually remap the keyboard, and the screen attributes may not always work properly. To see a list of some of these, check out Stroud's CWSApps List at http://www.cwsapps.com/cwsa.html and click on Terminal Apps.
If you're willing to spend some money, you should look into some of the commercial TN5250 emulators. Several very good ones are available. For example, Internet Chameleon by NetManage has a TN5250 emulator. Other popular ones include RUMBA by Wall Data, Reflection by WRQ, and Extra Personal Client by Attachmate.
In general, you get what you pay for. The freeware and shareware Telnet emulators work with the AS/400, but you have to put up with some minor inconveniences. The commercial TN5250 emulators are very solid and give you functionality similar to what you would find in a Systems Network Architecture (SNA)-based terminal emulator.
