Targeting the enterprise and SMB markets, Vision Director 7.0 successfully completed beta testing and is now installed at selected customer sites in advance of the general availability (GA) date set for Oct. 12.
"Director 7.0 represents a milestone in the evolution of Vision's widely used systems management solutions," says Vision Solutions Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President Alan Arnold. "Enhancements include a major revamp of menus and installation plus new initiatives to bring system health, change analysis, and application performance to the forefront of its technological boundary. We're thrilled to offer these benefits to current customers and the market as a whole."
Major new features of Vision Director 7.0 include:
- Dynamic monitoring of objects—a first for the System i market. Leveraging technology from other Vision HA solutions, Director can automatically keep object cross-reference information current. This means customers need not run separate jobs to ensure information is up-to-date.
- Change Analysis—Director 7.0 lets users group libraries into multiple domains and report/monitor growth across these domains. Change Analysis goes further to identify how the system changed over any period at Domain, Library, Object, or Profile levels.
- System Health Reports—These reports and graphical charts increase productivity significantly by presenting easy-to-understand views of the health of the system. They can be printed as part of IT operations, SLA or reporting requirements and are beneficial for comparison, documenting progress or capacity planning.
- Advanced Reporting—Director 7.0 expands the level and detail of system information with more than 60 new GUI-based reports providing sorts on every column, row, and column filters, download to XML and spreadsheet, charts, explanatory text, etc. Focused towards application performance tuning, many of these reports will help optimize and tune HA environments reducing RTO and RPO.
"This release represents the most significant jump in functionality and quality to date," says Vision Solutions' Product Director Paul Wade. "By delivering the industry's first object-level, dynamic systems management information repository together with multi-dimensional domain analysis, library registration, and change analysis with more than 60 new enquiries, we're raising standards to a whole new level."
"We are very pleased with this suite of utilities—from its quick deployment, to its almost maintenance-free operation, it's one of those applications that runs quietly in the background doing its job very well," shares customer Mike Davis, systems programming manager for Tandy Brands Accessories. "We are just beginning to scratch the surface of Director's capabilities and have already found it well worth the investment."
