The OCEAN User Group of System i users, based in Costa Mesa, California, will host itÆs 14th annual one-day "Catch the Wave" iSeries/System i Technical Conference and Vendor Expo July 16 featuring educational tracks for i Series/System i application development, e-business and Web tools, advanced technology and security, infrastructure, and integration with Microsoft tools.
The conference will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Irvine. The conference will include a vendor expo of some 32 premier i Series/System i solutions providers and Business Partners, and a well-stocked onsite bookstore hosted by MC Press Online. While there is a fee for the seminar, the expo is free and open to the public.
Speakers at the conference will include Bob Cozzi, Bob Tipton, Trevor Perry, Alison Butterill, and Scott Klement among others. Those expected to attend include RPG programmers, development managers, operations people, IT management, project managers, tech support, and systems administrators.
The event will be held at the Hyatt Regency, 17900 Jamboree Blvd., Irvine. The conference includes continental breakfast, lunch, and materials. All speakers are leading trainers and experts on the IBM i Series/System i and Windows platforms who have given presentations throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Topics to be covered include RPG IV advanced techniques, e-business development tools, IBM i Series/System i security and infrastructure, including operations navigator and LPAR.
There will be a track dedicated to Java and WebSphere and another track on new technology like SOA. This year, the group is adding tracks on IBM System i and Microsoft integration. This seminar is geared for RPG programmers and development managers looking for an introduction to the latest application development tools and an opportunity to bring their skills up to speed with the latest features in RPG IV, including the understanding and use of WebSphere Application Development tools such as WebFacing and WebSphere Express.
A special track for security and infrastructure will be geared for operations support and IT management, technical support specialists, and systems administrators. Finally, the Microsoft track is geared for programmers, business analysts, and project managers who need to be able to integrate data between the System i and Windows environments.
The vendor expo will provide an excellent opportunity for iSeries vendors to meet the developers and managers that have a voice in the selection of software and utilities. There will be about 32 vendor exhibitors and the expo is the only event of its kind in Southern California. The conference is expected to draw from 300 to 350 attendees.
