Robot, a division of HelpSystems and the systems management solution of choice for automating IBM i processes and applications, today announced the availability of a new version of their Robot CONSOLE message management and resource monitoring software. The release of version 6 introduces the much anticipated application monitoring capability, which allows users to monitor applications by capturing log data in the IFS that can indicate major issues in application availability or health.
“As more IBM i applications become Java- or web-based, they are less likely to send their important messages to a message queue such as QSYSOPR,” says Jody Dahl, Software Development Manager, HelpSystems. “The new application monitoring functionality goes beyond message queue monitoring and enables users to effectively monitor these business-critical applications.”
With the new application monitoring feature, users need only define the directories or files to monitor and the events for which they need notification. Setup of this feature is available only through the recently refreshed graphical user interface in Robot CONSOLE version 6.
Three new resource monitors for data queues, writers, and MQSeries channels were also added to Robot CONSOLE version 6, in addition to enhancements to the job resource monitor, which can now monitor the number of threads being used, and the output queue and job queue resource monitors.
Customers already using Robot CONSOLE can upgrade to this latest version to access the new features. HelpSystems offers a free, 30-day trial of Robot CONSOLE, which includes full product access and free support.
