Latest version allows users to create separate IFS Groups to organize, manage, and better control backups.

Help/Systems has announced Robot/SAVE 12, the latest version of its popular backup, recovery, and media management solution. Robot/SAVE 12 streamlines Integrated File System (IFS) operations by allowing users to specify which IFS directories to back up or restore.

With other software solutions, users must back up the entire IFS, including the areas that don’t change often—a waste of time, resources, and money. Robot/SAVE allows users to create IFS Groups (groupings of IFS directories) to organize, manage, and control their IFS backups. Users can organize their IFS backups based on their software applications—such as SAP, Oracle EnterpriseOne, and Domino—or other criteria, to back up and restore critical information.

For fast, organized restores, users can use Robot/SAVE’s object archive to quickly select individual IFS directories and files. In addition, Robot/SAVE’s new Restore IFS Group (RBSRSTIGRP) command allows users to restore an IFS Group.

This release of Robot/SAVE also provides two new reports to help users manage and maintain the IFS and their IFS Groups. The IFS Group Report lists all the IFS Groups defined on the IBM i system or partition, summarizes their contents, and displays relevant backup information. The IFS Group Archive Report allows a user to specify an IFS Group and a date range, and lists all IFS objects that were backed up during that time.

According to the company, Robot/SAVE is the most comprehensive backup, recovery, and tape management software available today for Power Systems running IBM i (System i, iSeries, AS/400). It offers selective IFS backup and recovery; data encryption; restricted state backups; automated backup; online guided restoration; object archive; error-free tape and virtual tape management; centralized scratch pool management; and Domino online backup. In addition, Robot/SAVE users can schedule their backups using Robot/SCHEDULE, the job scheduling and batch job management software.
