Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corp. has announced today the introduction of its new Pulsar M uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs). Responding to user's needs to maximize energy efficiency, the Pulsar M, sold under the MGE Office Protection Systems brand, features a high-efficiency design that saves energy and prevents excess heat when installed into a network rack, the company says.
The Pulsar M is the first on-line double-conversion UPS in its class with an adaptable, multi-position, hot-swappable Power Distribution Unit (FlexPDU). The FlexPDU provides an innovative, space saving method of easily adding receptacles to the back, side, or top of the UPS-freeing up much needed space in dense rack environments. In addition, optional universal HotSwap Maintenance By-Pass modules allow the UPS to be replaced, serviced or upgraded without interrupting the supply of power.
The 2200 and 3000 VA models feature multiple form factors to suit any need: Rack/Tower versatile with a choice of depth sizes to accommodate a variety of rack enclosures. At only 3.5 inches high (2U) for deep racks along with a 5.25-inch (3U) short depth unit to accommodate shallow telecom racks/enclosures, the Pulsar M's innovative slim design offers users system flexibility and increases the power density to allow for continual power for Information Technology (IT), telecommunications, healthcare, and industrial systems.
"Energy efficiencies and power availability are key concerns in today's IT environment. Our new Pulsar M models give users the best of both worlds: high power availability while using an exceptionally efficient UPS design that minimizes heat - thus reducing equipment cooling costs," said Hervé Tardy, vice president and general manager, Distributed Power Quality Business Unit of Eaton. "These important features together with flexible power distribution, hot-swappable battery modules and scalable run times give managers a full featured yet cost-effective power protection solution."
For applications requiring several hours of backup during a power outage, the units feature scalable runtimes and, with the 3000VA XL model, can accommodate up to 12 external battery banks. Furthermore, in order to maximize backup time for critical devices connected to the UPS, Eaton's Powershare technology enables users to remotely reboot systems and gracefully turn off less critical equipment.
Both Pulsar M models include USB and serial ports for remote communications and power management. Standard communications include contact ports for system status information, as well as a mini-terminal block to connect a remote switch to utilize the built-in Remote Power Off (RPO) and Remote ON/OFF (ROO) features that add another level of safety on site. Network integration with HP OpenView, IBM Netview, CA Unicenter and HP Insight Manager is handled with an optional network management card for SNMP/Web communication. In addition, the management card can monitor the temperature and humidity with the addition of an Eaton environmental sensor. The Pulsar M UPS comes with a free version of Enterprise Power Manager to manage up to five UPSs or other power devices (Power Distribution Units (PDUs), Power over Ethernet (PoE), midspans) regardless of brand.
The Pulsar M models are available now and come complete with a two-year guarantee including batteries.
