Attachmate Corp. announced general availability of Reflection for the Web 2008, the company's flagship browser-based host access offering, and showcased its product offerings designed for Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 at the recent Microsoft Tech.Ed North America 2008 conference in Orlando, Fla.

Reflection for the Web 2008

Reflection for the Web 2008 is terminal emulation software that securely connects browser users to applications on IBM, HP, UNIX, OpenVMS, Unisys, and Airlines hosts. Strong authentication and encryption capabilities safely deliver fully functioning host applications across the public Internet. A secure token authorization feature adds a layer of Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) access control in front of host applications, integrating them into modern security infrastructures.

A recent implementation of Reflection for the Web has resulted in a successful migration of more than 50,000 users at the U.S. government's Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).

"As an IT professional who has worked with federal software vendors for over 30 years, this is the first time I have experienced customer support that went above and beyond the call of duty," said Judith A. Janney, Hardware Support Branch, Infrastructure Division, Computing Services, DISA. "With Attachmate's dedicated and timely efforts, we have successfully accomplished our mission to migrate over 50,000 users to the Mainframe Internet Access Portal (Reflection for the Web) and eliminate Secure Web Access (IBM Host on Demand) from our software inventory. Our customers, both in the private sector and at the Department of Defense, are now able to access critical applications in both a secure and reliable manner. We have both stabilized and enhanced the product for use within the DISA environment."

Key features in Reflection for the Web 2008 include:

·      Centralized installation, deployment, and management lessen the administrative burden on IT.

·      Secure host sessions with secure token authorization and AES or 3DES encryption over SSL/TLS.

·      Authenticate users with Active Directory, LDAP, X.509 smart cards, Kerberos, and Web portal authentication methods.

·      Use existing LDAP users and groups to control user access to sensitive data and resources.

·      Facilitate compliance with regulations such as Payment Card Industry (PCI), Sarbanes-Oxley, Gramm-Leach-Bliley, HIPAA, and Basel II.

·      Leverage existing security technology infrastructures - including X.509 certificates, Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP), and Certificate Revocation Lists (CRL) - via Reflection.

·      Extend legacy host applications to users on Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux operating systems.

Strengthening mainframe security

Reflection for IBM 2007 offers security features and functionality to help customers safeguard private data, shore up network defenses, and meet increasingly stringent regulatory requirements.

Integrated cryptographic modules provide client-side support for SSL/TLS, SSH, and Kerberos security protocols.

Facilitate compliance with regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Payment Card Industry (PCI) audits, European Data Directive and Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA).

Reflection's cryptographic modules are built to meet strict U.S. federal government security standards including: Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2, Department of Defense (DoD) Class 3 PKI Public Key-Enabled (PKE), and Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC).
