HelpSystems announced the results of a global survey on usage and plans for AIX in the enterprise. Key findings indicate high satisfaction and loyalty among AIX users and a drive toward securing the platform to comply with industry regulations and to protect sensitive information.

AIX is a strategic component in today’s IT environment for many organizations. An overwhelming majority of the survey respondents (86 percent) say AIX provides a higher ROI than other operating systems and more than half (62 percent) run at least 25 percent of their core business on AIX. And more participants plan to increase their AIX footprint than migrate all their applications to a new platform, further validating their satisfaction with AIX.

Because of AIX’s prominent role in organizations, IT pros have a number of key initiatives underway with momentum centering on making sure environments are highly available (60 percent), that end users have updated applications (37 percent), and that the platform is very secure (40 percent). As for security, a majority of respondents (72 percent) report they are subject to compliance mandates like Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), HIPAA, or PCI DSS. The community shared their security challenges, including constantly-changing threats and a concerning lack of knowledge, skills, and technology in place.

“This community has spoken and it mirrors what we hear from AIX customers,” said Chris Heim, CEO, HelpSystems. “They are leveraging the platform for important business functions, so naturally they put at the top of their list things like high availability and security.”

“AIX users form a vibrant community that recognizes its importance in the enterprise,” said Tom Huntington, Executive Vice President of Technical Solutions, HelpSystems. “It’s exciting to see the continued popularity of AIX and how leading organizations have concrete plans on it.”

The complete AIX Community Survey Findings are now available online.
