Mike Midkiff, president and founder of Consult/400 says, "When REMINDER was created 10 years ago, we had to create a tape in one of many possible formats for each customer. Now, the customer can download the product, edit a text file to provide system name or IP address, an authorized user and password, then run an executable and the product is on the AS/400 or iSeries ready to be installed."
REMINDER is a useful product for programmers, operators, and users to remind themselves and others on the system of tasks and deadlines. With a feature-rich entry screen, reminders can be entered in seconds for tasks that are days, weeks, months, or even years away. Broadcast messages can be entered long beforehand to alert users or groups of users of upcoming events, such as system maintenance. Reminders can be sent once, weekly, or monthly. By making use of the 400 message queues they can then be used as an electronic "to-do" list.
The entry screen is designed for the fastest entry possible with automatic cursor progression and intuitive value defaulting. When REMINDER installs, it creates three short commands on the system. They are: ARùAdd Reminder, CRùChange Reminder, and RRùRemove Reminder. If any of these commands already exists, the command names are changed to add C400 at the beginning of each so as not to conflict with existing commands. A menu is provided for users that do not have command line access.
REMINDER works on any IBM AS/400, iSeries or System i running V3R2 or later. Users can download a 30-day trial version of REMINDER from www.consult400.us. Afterward, they can obtain a key for a 30-day extension or purchase the software by contacting the company.
