Group 1 Software, Inc., a Pitney Bowes Company, today introduced its GeoTAX Enterprise Tax Management solution, enabling businesses to reduce the guesswork in tax jurisdiction assignment for sales and use, payroll, business personal property, and insurance premium taxes.

The GeoTAX Enterprise Tax Management solution is specifically designed to address the two primary challenges in tax jurisdiction assignmentùmaintaining current jurisdictional boundary information down to the municipal, school and special tax district level, and efficiently matching those boundaries with employee, customer or business addresses.

Unlike other tax management products, the GeoTAX Enterprise Tax Management solution leverages Group 1 SoftwareÆs industry-leading geocoding technology to assign tax jurisdictions based on actual street addresses, rather than postal ZIP Code information, for greater assignment accuracy. In combination with Group 1 SoftwareÆs industry-leading data quality tools and tax jurisdiction files, the GeoTAX Enterprise Tax Management solution provides a total solution for more precise tax jurisdiction assignment across the enterprise, helping businesses reduce tax misfilings, financial risks and regulatory liability, and save considerable tax research and tax management costs.

ôIn many cases, local tax geographies are not limited to counties and municipalities, but include more granular areas, such as school, fire, and other special tax districts,ö explained Steve Walden, vice president of Business Geographics for Group 1 Software. ôThese special tax districts donÆt follow ZIP code boundaries and they change on a regular basis, so address-level geocoding, combined with complete and updated boundary information, is the only way to ensure more accurate assignment.ö

Added Walden, ôOur clients are astounded when we demonstrate for them the number of employee or customer addresses that they have wrongly assigned in their databases. If not corrected, these misassignments can lead to significant issues related to employee tax withholdings, property tax filings, and other tax liabilities.ö

The GeoTAX Enterprise Tax Management solution is based on Group 1 SoftwareÆs field-proven GeoTAX software technology currently used by many companies, including major telecommunication companies, to assign sales tax jurisdiction for hundreds of millions of bills per month. Utilizing a modular design, the GeoTAX Enterprise Tax Management solution now provides the same standard of excellence for payroll, business personal property, and insurance premium taxes.

In addition, the GeoTAX Enterprise Tax Management features easy integration with existing systems and processes, and support for all major enterprise platforms, including mainframes, AS 400, Unix, Linux, and NT, as well as client/server and web-enabled options.
