TEMBO Technology Lab (Pty) Ltd, the creator of Adsero Optima (AO) database modernization and management tools for IBM i announces a strategic partnership with Relational Data LLC, the creator of OnePoint Portal rapid application development tools. Under the partnership, TEMBO will bundle and distribute Relational Data’s OnePoint Portal & Developer Toolkit with its AO Foundation database modernization and management (MDM – Master Data Management) product. In addition, both companies will work together to educate companies using the IBM i platform about the many innovative ways software tools and data strategies can be used to significantly expand the return on investment of their legacy, business-critical IBM i applications.

OnePoint Portal is an IBM i application development platform that allows companies to develop and deploy broadly-scoped business applications requiring shared infrastructure and services on the Web. Because of this, the OnePoint Portal is also used as a basis for delivering modern, responsive user interfaces to legacy IBM i applications.

AO Foundation transforms IBM i environments running legacy databases into data-centric, centrally managed, multi-tier (MVC – model view controller) optimized installations. These deliver a fully functional and modern DB2 database, including a central metadata repository, which is key for leveraging business analytics, cloud and mobile computing.

“Many of our customers are a natural fit for OnePoint Portal as they pursue a complete application modernization offering, so it makes good sense for us to provide it along with our AO database modernization, data quality and data integrity offerings,” says Marinus van Sandwyk, CEO of TEMBO. “Most importantly, TEMBO and Relational Data are remarkably aligned with respect to our approach and modernization philosophy of helping companies get the most out of their IBM i applications. After four years of participating together in debates and discussions in public social network sites regarding competing technologies and modernization approaches, we came to the conclusion that there is exceptional alignment and synergies between our companies and offerings. We come at modernization from different angles, using different sets of tools, but our strategic directions and goals are absolutely congruent.”

The AO modernization approach focuses on the database allowing heritage applications to quickly extend to entirely new capabilities while achieving remarkable performance efficiencies and unlocking significant value from the collected business information. The Relational Data approach gives companies the ability to rapidly create robust, native IBM i based web portal applications from existing heritage applications and databases as another means of extending application capabilities.

“The bottom line is we share a significant common goal: help organizations leverage the tremendous value and investment in heritage applications, and especially their data, while continuing to enjoy the unparalleled reliability, security and performance of the IBM i platform,” van Sandwyk continues.

“We are excited to collaborate with TEMBO as they distribute OnePoint Portal along with AO Foundation, as well to help educate IBM i shops on how to leverage the significant investments in their legacy applications,” says Nathan Andelin, CEO of Relational Data LLC. “Each of our companies is passionate about the value and stability of the IBM i platform, and each is keenly aware that many companies are hungry for ways to extend the capabilities, data and business logic of their core applications to new uses. The cost, disruption and uncertainty of migrating application functionality and data to a non-IBM i platform in order to achieve new capabilities is simply unnecessary given the tools that companies like TEMBO and Relational Data bring to the IBM i market. Companies have made an enormous investment in their applications so it’s a shame when an organization considers massive migration and redevelopment projects in light of the powerful, affordable modernization tools that exist to add tremendous new application capabilities and thus extend return on investment many years into the future. ”
