In a Live Stream session, Maxava's Simon O'Sullivan to detail customer experiences after powerful earthquakes and a tsunami disrupt customer businesses.

Maxava, a global provider of IBM i high availability (HA) software, today announced that Simon O’Sullivan, a vice president with the company, will provide an account of how customers managed their IBM i disaster recovery (DR) efforts in the wake of the devastating earthquake in New Zealand and earthquake and tsunami in Japan at the COMMON Annual Meeting and Exposition, May 1-4, in Minneapolis.

O’Sullivan’s address, “Don't Become a Business Refugee--Maxava Discusses Real Life Disaster Recovery Scenarios”  will review the recent natural disasters in New Zealand and Japan with an emphasis on the February earthquake that struck Christchurch, New Zealand’s second largest city. The devastating earthquake left 170 dead, major parts of the city destroyed, and more than 200 buildings damaged beyond repair.

According to O’Sullivan, the New Zealand press coined a new phrase for the many businesses that were not ready--“Business Refugees.”  Less than two weeks later, Japan suffered a catastrophic earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster.

O’ Sullivan’s session at 11:00 a.m. (CT) Wednesday, May 4, will examine how Maxava HA software helped customers in New Zealand and Japan through both of these catastrophic events. Maxava staff and partners worked with their customers to enable them to role-swap their businesses to other locations and continue running at their backup sites. Attendees can hear about lessons learned on how to survive a real-life disaster with their data intact.

The session will be streamed live over the new COMMON LIVETRACK which takes COMMON's Annual Meeting and brings it to the entire community virtually, allowing those that cannot attend the conference to still be a part of the largest gathering of the Power Systems user community.  Offered at no charge, registration for the Maxava session can be made at http://www.common.org/index.php/event-reg.html

Maxava will have a booth at the COMMON Expo and will be available to answer questions and demo its products. This year, the Maxava team will be joined at the event by Maxava CEO Allan Campbell. Maxava is one of the world’s fastest growing providers of HA and DR solutions for the IBM i platform.
