MC Press Online has announced the appointment of Katie Tipton to its editorial team. Serving in the new position of Book Editor, Tipton will handle the management and development of all book products for MC Press Online, with responsibility for book acquisitions, title development and production, and product line management.

Tipton, an accomplished editor and project manager with a wide variety of technical publishing experience, brings more than 25 years of editorial experience to her new role. Before joining MC Press Online, she worked for six years as a freelance editor, with expertise in IBM systems, programming, networking, and Web development. Prior to that, she was employed with Penton Media and its predecessor, Duke Communications, where she served in a variety of roles, most recently as the editor overseeing Penton's line of System i books.

Tipton's background includes extensive experience with all types of publishing, including trade and textbooks, magazines, newsletters, Web sites, and product directories. She also has experience in the retail book business, having managed bookstores in Nashville, Tennessee, and Amherst, Massachusetts. "Katie has years of experience both in editorial and in keeping projects in scope and on time, so she will be an invaluable resource," said Merrikay Lee, president and co-owner of MC Press Online.

"Merrikay and Jeff [Jeff Phillips, MC Press Online marketing director] have done a remarkable job building up the book division with many on-target titles that have been extremely popular with thousands of readers," Tipton said. Tipton expressed great admiration for the talented team of industry authors who have written for MC Press Online over the years. "I want them to know how much I, and the rest of our company, value their hard work and accomplishments," she said. "We can't rest on our laurels, though," quipped Tipton. Tipton holds degrees in mathematics and philosophy from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, and currently lives in Birmingham, where she is vice president of the Birmingham Historical Society.
