Bytware will launch a new marketing campaign at COMMON that promises to entertain and inform like nothing the midrange industry has seen to date.
Called "moshimoshi" (after the Japanese telephone greeting for hello), the new campaign is "an interactive experience for the System i community that is a series of animated shorts and games designed to educate users on a variety of systems management and security issues," says Chris Jones, Bytware director of marketing. It is brought to platform users by Bytware and sponsored in part by MC Press Online, IT Jungle, System i Network, and Group8 Security, Inc., Jones says.
The campaign takes off from a point visually and conceptually where Bytware's earlier "i5virus" mystery and promotional game ended. The earlier campaign not only attracted thousands of users and informed them about security risks associated with PHP, but it was an advertising industry award winner. The i5virus campaign was presented with three ADDY Awards by the American Advertising Federation-including two top-scoring Gold ADDYs-and is a contender in this year's Webby Awards.
Based on the previews that MC Press Online has seen, the moshimoshi campaign could easily be headed for the award podium even before it leaves the gate, which will be on Sunday, March 30, at COMMON. Attendees will be aware of the campaign almost from the moment that they arrive in Nashville. The company's ad will grace the back cover of the COMMON expo guide, and banners will be up to heighten attendees' curiosity. Bytware is providing plastic moshimoshi badge pouches and lanyards that contain Bytware literature. The Bytware ID badge will spotlight one of six characters featured in the game. The badges will display a QR code that some will be able to scan and read with their cell phones. The code contains bios of the moshimoshi characters.
moshimoshi will run for eight weeks with a new episode each week delivered online and through YouTube. Though the episodes will last only two minutes, viewers will be able to interact with the characters. The host of the game is Harold "Hal" Standly, the company's director of IT, and other characters have humorous names such as Sudoku and Ono.
The animated series will feature shorts and games designed to inform System i users about a variety of security and systems management topics. Through the campaign, business and IT challenges addressed by Bytware's solutions are expressed in a way intended to engage users with Bytware's message. To access the game site, visit http://www.moshimoshicorp.com/ after March 30.
