System i Developer, the consortium of four top educators on IBM i development technologies and organizers of the RPG & DB2 Summit, have announced that the next RPG & DB2 Summit conference will take place April 15-April 17, 2009 at The Florida Hotel in Orlando. System i Developer partners Susan Gantner, Jon Paris, Paul Tuohy and Skip Marchesani lead the speaker lineup with an agenda that covers practical, use-it-today tips and techniques on topics ranging from RPG IV to SQL to modernizing program architecture and user interfaces.  They will be joined by popular guest instructors Scott Klement, Mike Cain, Kent Milligan and Barbara Morris. Four half-day "Headstart Seminars" on Tuesday, April 14, offer attendees intensive concentration on SQL, PHP and HTML/Javascript/CSS for RPG developers prior to attending the core conference.

"Most RPG and DB2 developers passionately believe in the value proposition that the IBM i brings to their company. They want to learn the skills and techniques that will help them keep their systems vibrant and relevant to their employers," says System i Developer partner Jon Paris. "We focus on real-world techniques that allow them to leverage their existing data and business logic in new ways. Once those seeds are planted, innovation becomes a natural follow-on. It gives us a real kick to hear the ideas sparked by the sessions, and it's an even bigger kick for us to hear how people put those ideas into action after the conference."

The Summit offers multiple sessions on current technologies such as SQL, RPG IV, RSE (WDSC or RDi), DB2, ILE, PHP, XML, and other Web technologies suitable for RPG programmers.

Feedback from the October 2008 conference in Las Vegas indicates that the RPG & DB2 Summit education hits its mark. Some 98 percent of the attendees rated the speakers, the session content and the overall conference "very good" or "excellent." Nearly two thirds rated the speakers and session content a solid "excellent."

According to attendee Jesse Peters, IT specialist at Central Electric Power Cooperative, the RPG & DB2 Summit excels at creating a positive learning environment for developers. "No matter what session you took at the Summit, you couldn't lose. All of the speakers were exceptional-knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects, and excited to be teaching others. They had great personalities and lots of energy. They made it so exciting at times that we didn't care if sessions ran long; we still wanted more. It was an all-around fun and informative conference-by far the best conference I have ever attended!"

Jack Henry's Margaret Wert concurs. "Several of us from Jack Henry & Associates went to the Summit last October, and it really got the juices flowing. Even when we got back to the office, not a day went by that we weren't talking about ways to use the new things we learned. We all learned so much and had a lot of fun-we will definitely go back."

Registration for the RPG & DB2 Summit, is $995 ($895 for Alumni) for reservations received by Feb. 20.  Half-day seminars can be added to conference registration at $215 for one seminar, or $295 for two.
