Maxava is delighted to report a record number of applicants to its 2014-15 Maxava iFoundation program, announced earlier this year.
This year funding was provided by Maxava iFoundation to a total of 26 IBM i community groups across the Americas, Europe and Africa with grants of USD$2,000 paid to each qualifying organization. “These are all groups working for the continuing vitality of the IBM i community and the development of the people operating within it. Maxava is delighted to see an increase in the number of applicants for 2014,” said Allan Campbell, CEO of Maxava; “it is especially encouraging to see the number of participating groups in Europe more than double this year, and we’re looking forward to meeting many of them when we take up looksoftware’s generous invitation to join their iBelieve tour in November of this year.”
The Maxava iFoundation, established by Maxava in 2011, aims to help IBM i user groups in any part of the world grow and strengthen within the IBM i community. It offers grants each year to interest groups for the general promotion and free exchange of knowledge, ideas, and skills related to IBM i. Successful applicants are not-for-profit organization who aim to enhance the broader IBM i community.
In the USA, Southeast Michigan IBM i User Group (SEMIUG) has already decided on how they will use their iFoundation grant for the next 12 months. The group has just sent out invitations for a fall “Student Game Activity” where students are invited to code a game on the IBM i, using SEMIUG’s shared “iDevcloud box” (funded by the iFoundation grant) for the activity. Each student will be assigned a volunteer mentor from the group, to maximize the learning opportunity, while some students will use the activity for a class project. The completed games will be unveiled in November, with winning students awarded prizes.
SEMIUG’s president Laura Ubelhor says “This is a great opportunity to engage the future generation of resource into our local community and get acquainted with future talent. This worthwhile activity will greatly impact the future of the platform within our local community.”
Maxava iFoundation grants can be used to support activities such as educational conferences and workshops, speaker expenses, marketing and educational collaboration with local colleges and universities and other, similar growth activities.
