Part of the COMMON Certification Program, the exam will be available for the first time at the COMMON Annual Meeting and Exposition in Anaheim May 6-9.

COMMON today formally launched a brand new credential as part of its COMMON Certification Program—COMMON Certified Application Developer—ILE RPG on IBM i on Power.  After assessing, and ultimately discovering, need within the community for an updated certification of skill in the RPG programming language, COMMON had an obligation to meet the wishes of its membership and undertook the development of this ILE (Integrated Language Environment) RPG certification. Developed by industry-recognized volunteer subject matter experts, including Scott Klement, Vern Hamberg, Ted Holt, Birgitta Hauser, Laura Ubelhor and Jim Buck, this new credential further provides depth to the COMMON Certification Program and meets a need of the COMMON membership. Working with an aggressive timeline, the team sought to finish their work quickly so as not to miss an opportunity to debut the exam at the upcoming COMMON 2012 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Anaheim, California, the world’s largest gathering of the Power Systems user community.

"The new ILE RPG credential came out of the membership telling COMMON about its needs and through hard work by selfless volunteers, we were able to meet those needs," said Randy Dufault, chair, COMMON Certification Committee.  "This new exam will help us branch out further with our Certification Program and now adds a technical certification into the mix, complementing our Associate and Professional Business Computing credentials."  Learn more about the COMMON Certification Program, including the new ILE RPG credential at http://www.common.org/certification

The COMMON 2012 Annual Meeting and Exposition is the premier Power Systems-related educational and networking event and the largest gathering of the Power Systems user community.  It will be held this year from May 6 through May 9 at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, offering more than 300 educational choices for attendees across a broad range of topics.  The Opening Session will kick off the Annual Meeting on Sunday, May 6 with a welcome and update from COMMON President Pete Massiello, followed by an IBM keynote presentation by the newly appointed GM of IBM Power Systems, Colin Parris.  The Opening Session will also be streamed live for free again as part of COMMON’s LIVETrack virtual conference offering, which this year will offer two free streamed sessions and 13 paid sessions streamed live from the conference as well.  Learn more at http://www.common.org/annualmeeting
