BOSaNOVA, Inc., a leading developer of thin clients and network appliances is expanding its focus into security solutions with the availability of the Q3 Storage Security Encryption appliance. BOSaNOVA's Q3 provides heightened security with encryption for at-rest data.

Designed to be strong, simple and non-intrusive, Q3 encrypts backup data without any effect on corporate networks or current backup procedures, the company says. The appliance sits between the data path and the tape storage device allowing installation that takes only minutes. With dual soft keys entered by users and a hard key unique to the specific customer, the Q3's two-factor authentication allows for strong, yet simple, key management. Additionally, this powerful solution features strong encryption with its unique dual interlaced encryption modes.

Due to recent government regulations companies are now required by law to protect consumer's personal information. Regulations like HIPAA protect consumers by requiring that their critical personal data is secure at all times. California Senate Bill 1386 goes one step further by requiring that customers are notified immediately when there's a suspicion that their personal data has been compromised. This can be as simple as a tape lost in transit.

According to the Identity Theft Resource Center, in 2006 there were over 315 publicized security breaches affecting nearly 20 million individuals. Loss of stolen backup tapes contributes to a large number of these breaches.

"The protection of backup data is often overlooked. Many believe that it is useless because it contains old information only used for disaster recovery," says Martin Pladgeman, BOSaNOVA President. "In a statement from the Ponemon Research firm, they reported that data breaches cost companies an average of $182 per compromised record in legal fees and other expenses. In addition to these piercing fees, the loss of even just one backup tape can lead to severe implications including penalties, loss of competitive advantage, and a tarnished corporate identity."

"With the risk of valuable data falling into the wrong hands and all of the new government regulations, IT managers have the utmost responsibility to protect their company's data at rest," says Mike Campbell, director of security solutions at BOSaNOVA. "It's nearly impossible to know that backup data is completely protected 100 percent of the time. That's enough to keep you awake at night! Q3 is a non-intrusive way to know that your data is always protected," he said.

The Q3 is available for purchase through BOSaNOVA's resellers.
