Vision Solutions announced at COMMON the release of iTERA HA 6.0 and MIMIX HA 6.0 including advanced autonomics coupled with full-featured high availability enhancements that promote high performance, flexibility, and nonstop business continuity.

"Vision Solutions continues to make high availability, disaster recovery, and data management technologies easier and more affordable," says Alan Arnold, Vision Solutions chief technology officer and executive vice president. "Our latest versions of MIMIX HA and iTERA HA underscore this commitment by providing unprecedented flexibility including improved installation experiences, enhanced monitoring and more automation capabilities delivering dramatically simplified configuration, deployment and tuning."

Targeted for the small-to-medium business market but installed in some of the largest global enterprises, iTERA HA remains one of the most popular HA and DR solutions for companies using IBM i, according to Vision. The solution's self-managing capabilities require little in-house expertise and its unique virtual-role-swap capability (without downtime) allows customers to test and validate the readiness of their role-swap easily, the company says.

Major new features within iTERA HA 6.0 include:

  • Faster installation experience for many customers. iTERA HA can now auto-discover libraries, configure the environment, create a journal, synchronize the data and objects, and automatically start mirroring, auditing and monitoring.
  • More powerful self-correction. Auto Action Messages allow users to define and automatically trigger corrective action routines when specific messages are generated by iTERA HA.
  • Faster resynchronization and audit performance. Enhanced audits provide deeper examination of objects such as user profiles, directory entries, configuration (devices, lines and controllers), job schedule entries and output queues.

"We've noticed a significant improvement with the speed of transactions going through the system," Paul Edwards, an IT operations manager for Autologic said. "Error reporting has greatly improved and a much improved user interface along with more standard function keys has made the software easier to navigate around and resolve any issues with more speed and confidence. Overall, I give full marks to Vision for this new version."

"We've found iTERA HA V6 significantly reduces the amount of time spent monitoring our HA environment," adds MCL Group Ltd's Mark Johnson. "We can check our role-swap readiness on a single screen and we have a whole new level of confidence in our HA solution."

MIMIX HA enhancements include:

  • Improved performance through optimization of the apply process providing even faster replication for large, high transaction environments-additional performance improvements can also be found in both the installation process and audit feature.
  • More flexible auditing-MIMIX HA V6.0 also delivers more flexibility in the areas of audit scheduling and the audits now check a larger number of attributes for an even more robust HA environment.
  • Powerful IBM i integration-the new release also delivers key integration points with the IBM i environment including MAXOPT3 support for high transaction environments and integration directly into the IBM Director Navigator interface allowing a simplified product launching point for MIMIX HA.

"Having been a MIMIX user for some time, I find the most compelling element of the new release is how effective the auditing and self-correction have become," says Barry Parker, an IT security officer at JM Eagle. "This automation translates into my having to spend very little time managing and monitoring my HA environment."

These iTERA HA 6.0 and MIMIX 6.0 features are just a few of the numerous enhancements making it easier for Vision Solutions' customers to realize the many benefits of high availability.

"Both of these upgrades extend the ease-of-use, flexibility and performance capabilities while continuing to deliver accurate replication, comprehensive object and data coverage, advanced autonomics and improved role swap capabilities," adds Bill Hammond, director of product marketing for Vision Solutions. "And with last fall's release of ORION Solution HA's version 6.0, we've now completed major upgrades to our entire suite of high availability products for the IBM i platform."
