V3.6 adds multi-platform database support and PDF Web reporting templates along with mobile-friendly charts.

Business Computer Design, Intl. (BCD Software), has unveiled a new release of Clover Query, BCD's Web-based reporting and business intelligence tool for unlimited users that creates real-time Web reports from data residing in IBM DB2 for i as well as other leading database platforms.

Clover Query V3.6 expands the number of database types from which a user can create Web-based reports by including templates for MS SQL Server and MySQL. It also includes a PDF template to produce reports in PDF format. An enhanced set of SmartCharts allows users or a developer to create graphs for non-Flash devices such as the iPad.

MySQL and SQL Server Templates

With the new MySQL and MS SQL Server templates, a developer or user can now create Web-based reports, graphs, spreadsheets, and PDFs from databases beyond DB2 in IBM i. This capability has become increasingly important in today's mixed-platform environment. The templates allow programmers or users to create and deliver reports that display tables from DB2 for i and other database systems in a way that is transparent to the user. This broader access can give users, including management, a more comprehensive picture of what's occurring within the organization.

PDF Template

With the new PDF template, the developer or user can create a new report in minutes that is output as a PDF file. The user can view, print, or save the file, and the developer can make the PDF look similar to an HTML page if he wants users to view the data before saving it to PDF. These PDF files are a popular and compact format that today is compatible with many platforms including Windows, Mac, Linux and most smartphones.

Non-Flash Charts

SmartCharts—a set of charts included with Clover Query at no additional cost—has also been updated in V3.6. A version of the graphs for non-Flash devices such as iPads is now included. The developer or user can design and integrate real-time animated two and three-dimensional bar and pie charts, executive dashboards, and more on the fly and display them on an iPad or other devices that don't support Flash. As the workforce becomes increasingly mobile, and devices like the iPad further pervade the marketplace, non-Flash SmartCharts will be relied upon with increasing frequency. For supported devices, however, the developer still can continue to use the Flash version where appropriate.
